Dr. Felix Kaufmann, age 103, of Parkland, Florida, passed away on October 9th at his residence, with Vicki, his wife of 33 years at his bedside.
Felix was born in Berlin, a child prodigy with a thirst for knowledge that lasted all his life. After graduation from the prestigious Gordonstoun School in Scotland, he attended the University of London where he received a degree equivalent to a doctorate in the biomedical sciences.
He emigrated from the UK to the US in the 1950’s, and became an American citizen in the 1960’s. His varied career reflected his exceptional capabilities and spanned prominent positions with the World Health Organization, Hudson Institute, Hoffmann-LaRoche, Kerr Italia, Bendix Corporation, Florida Atlantic University and Eastern Michigan University. While at EMU from 1983-1994, he was a professor in the graduate program of the Department of Interdisciplinary Technology, the College of Technology.
Felix Kaufmann led a remarkable life: by turns research scientist, director of medical research, strategic planner, an inventor holding some 40 patents, from drugs to cosmetics assigned to companies. He taught in universities, authored articles, lectured at conferences from Kyoto to Budapest, and consulted for United Nations Agencies around the world.
He was loved and revered by friends, colleagues and a large family including several generations of grandchildren in the US and UK.
