Streaming Funeral Service For Melanie M Beckford

Melanie Meleta Beckford known to her family as “Millie” was born on August 24, 1941, in Saint Ann, Jamaica West Indies.

She was the 4th child of ten children ofthe late Cecil Douglas Lloyd and Naomi Smith Lloyd.

Melanie received her primary school education at Eccleston All Age School in Saint Ann, Jamaica. She would later leave her childhood home in Saint Ann and move to Kingston, Jamaica where she was a domestic worker. She eventually migrated to the United States in 1968 to Howard Beach, NY where she worked as a caretaker. She later returned to Jamaica, West Indies to marry her beloved husband Reginald Augustus Beckford on December 20, 1969.

Melanie’s collegiate education began at Queensborough Community College where she obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing. She later obtained her Bachelors’ of Science in Nursing at Barry University in Florida. She was a hard worker and had a successful career for over 45 years as a Registered Nurse. She worked at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, Flushing Hospital in Queens and ended her career at Life Care Center in Port St. Lucie. In 1992, Melanie relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida where she spent her final years with her husband.

Melanie craved knowledge and loved reading various topics like history, nature and medical articles. She loved flowers and gardening. She could walk through a garden and name the different plants, flowers and reminisce on her childhood.

 

Melanie was a God-fearing woman of strong faith and accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She was a member of Free Gospel Assemblies of God in Flushing, Queens and later Oleander Church in Fort Pierce, Florida. She would often be seen reading her Bible and told others she was praying for them. She was a true example of a leader and her expression of love was always being willing to help others. She was blessed to see her grandchildren grow into responsible adults.

Melanie transitioned to be with the Lord on May 01, 2024. She is predeceased by sisters Gen, Ina and Cynthia and brothers Donald and Joseph. She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Reginald Augustus Beckford; Daughters: Joan, Audrey and Maxine; Sisters: Tamazine, Pauline and Mary (Lenworth); Brother: John (Sophie); Grandchildren: Shadai, Tiara, Elisha, and Christopher; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and many close family and friends.

 

To her family, friends and community Melanie leaves behind a legacy of priceless memories, acts of kindness and love for those she came in contact with. Her strong faith and belief in the Lord enriched the lives of many. May her soul and body rest in eternal peace.

A visitation for Melanie will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Dr, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34983. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Fernhill Memorial Gardens, 1501 S Kanner Highway, Stuart, FL 34994.
